There's nothing more frustrating than being on a long flight without a power outlet. Fortunately, most of the time I'm in first-class thanks to Delta's generous upgrade policy, but occasionally I find myself on a flight without power.
The solution, of course, is to buy a spare battery for your laptop. However, some batteries for some laptop models can cost almost as much as a laptop itself – $150 or more. There is a simple solution to this problem.
Just go to eBay and find the knockoff battery for your laptop model - they cost around $50. I bought a couple of batteries myself this way, and I was initially suspicious, because they are shipped from Hong Kong. Imagine my surprise when my battery arrived in less than a week.
The next step is to charge your original battery, put it away and almost never use it, taking it out only for emergencies. Use the knockoff battery on a day-to-day basis, and when you are on flights or whatever. The only time you should use your original battery, which of course you keep fully charged, is when you run out of juice on the knockoff battery. Using this method, I only have to use my original battery perhaps five or ten times a year, which greatly preserves its longevity. Surprisingly, the knockoff battery, which I use 365 days a year, is still going strong and lasts just about as long as it did when I first got it.
